Man had not always been a SAD Man. Man had only reached this state of being by giving up his right to study and know himself. This stage of human evolution has been documented to lead a child, even an adult, to metabolic disorders. If the way of life is prolonged, chronic nerve and/or organ degenerative diseases appear to surface as indication of molecular unrest and chaos.
In this diet, one eats the Staple Foods massively produced, as if man is living in a feedlot and simply requires boxes with colorful ads to get him to consume what’s inside it.
There are a few things that distinguish this diet from other diets:
Please use the hyperlinks in the above list to navigate directly to a topic of interest.
This diet can be characterized, in a general sense, as a low-fat, moderate protein, high-carbohydrate diet.
All these will be explain below.
First and foremost, people on this diet are usually uneducated or cannot afford a cleaner diet because of the limited perspective they have been fostered into and maintained by their bad company and governing agent. These people fluctuate between moments of extreme joy and extreme depression, energy-rich moments and energy-poor, and are not sober enough to realize that they are in their own prison of their own making.
They will not be open for alternative medicine, and will most likely go for a surgery than drink a bitter herb for a week long. They operate from a victim consciousness perspective, and can only be reached emotionally before even considering to be led gently into reasoning over their bad eating habits. Due to the lack of emotional control, they identify with their bodily sensations in ways that keeps them in an urgent drive to fulfill their restless appetite for transient sensory happiness.
This type needs to lay down a few foundations, concept by concept, before reaching a bigger picture. Telling them what they can eat or what they cannot eat is futile. They need to observe habits and partake in them in order to improve their metabolism and integrate wisdom. They will listen to the logic behind doing something, sometimes ”getting it”, but will instinctively operate from thought-forms like “it’s hard” or “that’s impossible”, which hinders the intelligence of the heart from connecting with the life-urges that motivates the conscious observer onward.
People on this type of diet will operate completely from the ego. Their biggest fault in their personality is greed, which leads them to consume with their eyes rather than contacting the intelligence in the gut to determine what really is missing. Due to the absence of self-control, they will envy another for their toned and fit earthly physique, and will buy easily into ads and promises of an image that has to be EARNED rather than consumed. Even if One demonstrates to them the wisdom behind a healthier habit, they will fall back the next morning due to environmental triggers in their bedroom, kitchen and on their route to work, which traps them in an emotional tunnel-vision of dissatisfaction.
Their best chance of evolving their diet and lifestyle is by making friends with good company whom demonstrates good habits and empowering life-perspectives. These people must learn to adhere to the spiritual value of friendships above all types of transient sensory gratifications. Due to their fragile victim consciousness, a small mistake may be fueled into a huge imaginary scenario. They’ll identify so strongly with their illusion, that they’ll purposefully break their routine and oath. Only later, once they mustered the courage to communicate with their friend and/or life-coach, do they find out that they blew their mistake out of realistic proportions.
Even if they have woken up by your words or actions, their stuckness within that SAD diet will sedate their efforts from actually implementing their new year resolution. Good company and mentorship under skilled and unconditionally loving friends will benefit them the most. However, they do have the potential to break their death habits on their own, and take responsibility for their own success.
To adequately characterize a person who eats a Standard American Diet, we need to list the common foods they go for.
Conventional Bread, Pasta, Pastries, processed starches, processed vegetable oils, processed foods, pasteurized milk and juices, non-soaked or non-sprouted nuts and seeds, hardly any fresh vegetables and fruits. Typically no awareness to the difference between Organic and conventional. No awareness to fermentation processes and their benefits.
Due to the food this type of person eats, his microbiome in his gut is compromised. The food sources he eats benefit the growth of pathogenic bacteria, and the toxins in the foods are high and acidic, causing much damage to gut cells. Beneficial bacteria thrive in specific pH conditions, which are repeatedly interrupted, providing opportunistic bacteria the leverage to colonize and set up residency.
In the early 1900’s, the germ theory of disease accused bacteria for causing all our diseases. Some diseases were brought about by germs, but not all germs are bad. Louis Pasteur was a scientists who developed the process of Pasteurization, which demonstrated the option of killing all the bacteria from a potential source of contamination, such as cow’s milk. However, not all cows are treated the same, or fed the same, and those who are fed a factory feedlot meal of grains and legumes seem to produce larger populations of E. Coli and other pathogenic strains of bacteria. Cows that ate grass reveal upon examination undetectable levels of pathogens, and instead, their milk is filled with beneficial microbes, designed to populate the growing caff. RAW Milk is safe to consume, as long as it comes from a cow you can trust has received good sources of nourishment and ethical treatment (sunshine and grass-fed cattle).
Pasteurization has the following effects on food, such as milk:
– Denatures Enzymes, Vitamins, Proteins
Essentially deforming the nutrients and rendering them inorganic.
– Kills all the bacteria
Literally making the materials in the medium less available for absorption.
– High heat harms sensitive fatty acids
Polyunsaturated fatty acids are oxidized and turned into poison to tissues.
Due to the natural separation of fat globules from water molecules, a liquid medium, such as milk, will show the fat content at the top and the liquid at the bottom. Since traditionally people could tell the quality of milk by the content of fat at the top, when the industry wanted to convert the entire population to drinking low-fat milk, they had to take away from the consumer the power to discern between good quality milk and bad quality milk.
For that reason Homogenization was invented, which is a process of breaking apart the fat globules by squeezing them with the liquid portion of the milk through tiny holes. When this is done, the fats and water mix uniformly, and prevents the separation and formation of a fat layer.
A Holstein cow is the black and white cow popularly marketed in the industry. Why? because it produces the most amount of milk than any other cow, but its fat content is the lowest of any cow. On the other hand, Jersey cows, who are identified by a light brown coat, do not produce as much milk as the Holsteins, but it is famous for its signature layer of orange colored fat it produces. The orange color is an indication of vitamin A content, as Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin; it literally needs fat in order to function and remain available to be metabolized.
Homogenization has the following effects on food, such as milk:
– Deforming fatty acid structure
Essentially rips apart the natural structure of the fat globules, which can harm their sensitive hydrocarbon chains.
Prior to WW2, the United States of America had good economical and industrial relationships with asian countries, who would allow the U.S. to import high quality coconut oil. When ties with asian countries were severed, due to the war, the industry had an opportunity to market and supply an alternative to the dwindling stocks of vegetable oils. Since many of the oils produced from rapeseeds, corn etc. were liquid in consistency, the industry went to their chemists and soon after a process to saturate organic compounds was invented – Hydrogenation.
This process, of Hydrogenation, forcibly converts an unsaturated fatty acid into a saturated fatty acid, by converting the site of the double bond into a single hydrogen bond. In this process, hydrogens are forcibly attached to the hydrocarbon chain, making the double bond unnecessary, but instead of the fatty acid becoming a true saturated fatty acid, the result is a trans fatty acid. Chemically acts like a saturated fat, but its not. Moreover, trans fats are well known to cause neurological issues and cancer, which gives the conclusion that all hydrogenated vegetable oils are poisons to biological intelligences.
Aside from the chemical structure of hydrogenated vegetable oils, it is clear to anyone who studied the introductory course to Nutrition, that unsaturated fatty acids are sensitive to heat, light and oxygen, and thus cannot be used for cooking or baking. Only true saturated fatty acid sources, from coconut oil and ghee (clarified butter), are safe for cooking, searing meats, boiling etc. etc. Vegetable oils with a high composition of unsaturated fatty acids are healthier for biological intelligences when consumed cold, such as olive oil on a salad.
Another issue with processed vegetable oils are the destruction of sensitive polyunsaturated fatty acids.
Omega 3’s and Omega 6’s are very sensitive to heat, light and oxygen. They go rancid when environmental stressor are applied to them. Many of the vegetable oils have polyunsaturated fatty acids in measurable amounts, and cooking, baking and frying with these oils produces highly reactive forms of these fatty acids. When they come in contact with cells, they act like toxins, like free radicals, and can cause damage.
The SAD dieter has a high Omega 6 intake. Due to that, its relative, Omega 3, is reduced in the tissues of the body. In many cases, people suffering from omega 3 deficiency, and an imbalance in the fatty acid’s ratio, show signs of hair loss and skin problems, such as psoriasis.
These fatty acids are found in meats as well, but in smaller amounts than in flaxseeds and fish, though in a composition with other fats. A look at meat grown in a factory feedlot shows high amounts of Omega 6’s, while a cow fed grass has a better ratio of these fatty acids and a larger content of Omega 3s.
When biological structures are cooked, heat breaks atomic bonds causing the fibers, proteins and fats to lose their molecular integrity. Such in the case of steaming vegetables, where a highly fibrous vegetable, such as a broccoli, is softened and made easier to chew and digest. This gives Man a great advantage when wanting to consume tough to chew foods.
However, cooking can be likened to pasteurization – both apply heats and both denature enzyme structure and function. Remember, an enzyme is designed to fit like a key into a lock; if its primary structure is deformed, it cannot fulfill its role and it becomes inorganic (unusable by the body and a waste to be excreted).
Cooking meats can create Heterocyclic Amines, which exhibit carcinogenic properties to living tissues. Any food that is overcooked, that reaches a charcoal texture, is highly toxic to living tissues. Cells are stressed by these unstable and deformed molecules.
Instead, slow cooked foods, such as crockpot soups, steamed vegetables and broiled meats, breaks apart the skeletal structure of the food and pries it open for the internal contents of the plant cell or animal cell to ooze out and become available. Otherwise, chewing is the only option to prying open cellular walls to drink up their content.
The body is designed to absorb and utilize organic compounds. Synthetic compounds are unnatural to biological intelligences, and due to that, will largely be rejected by cells. Why and how? Every cell has thousands of receptors that can tell when a signal fits in its key hole, and then it abides by the complementing match or doesn’t react at all. These cellular guidelines are necessary in order to prevent chaotic triggering of cellular response to every signal.
Synthetic nutrients that are added to fortify cereals, are derived from labs that had to spend energy in their processing methods in order to extract that vitamin from its natural source. In many cases, Manmade extractions require harsh chemicals and heavy metals in order to extract and purify the final product. Purifying it isn’t simple, and making it a completely clean product is difficult, so people consuming synthetic compounds may also be receiving an intake of toxins in the form of heavy metals.
Moreover, synthetic supplements can interfere with the balance of functioning compounds within the organism, as well as mimic other compounds and thus trigger uncoordinated mechanisms.
This is the signature composition of the SAD diet – highly acidic food. Since the Standard American Diet is modeled according to the food pyramid published by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), we observe that the largest portion recommended to these dieters is grains in various processed forms and sugar.
Grains hold the potential for life to germinate. It is equipped with everything the sprout needs in order to grow its stem and root until it establishes itself in the soil and begins nourishing off its environment. Thus, a fast acting storage of energy, in the form of sugars is beneficial in the design of the seed. Even though these sugars come as complex carbohydrates upon ingesting them and digesting them, all carbs must be broken down into their smallest building unit – a single molecule of sugar – in order for that substance to cross the barrier through the gut into the circulatory system.
Moreover, all grains come with protection mechanisms, of toxins and digestive inhibitors, to ensure the survival of the pod until sprouting occurs. All toxins exhibit an acid influence on the blood. The food pyramid does not propagate the wisdom in soaking and sprouting grains prior to baking or consuming them, thus the SAD dieters expose their gut lining to these toxins and digestive inhibitors and contribute to an acid environment in the GI tract.
Aside from that, many SAD dieters place no limit to their consumption of sweets, sugary snacks and desserts. This also is a kick in the glycemic index, producing the roller coaster phenomena of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, which they experience internally. As widely known, insulin is secreted in order to deal with the toxic dosage. What sugar it can shove into the cells is metabolized into energy, making one feel overly energized, and what sugar is stopped from entering the cell is converted into a fatty acid and stored in fat cells for future needs.
The grains, their protection mechanisms, and sugar, all reduce the pH of the bloodstream. This always entails the body to direct energy and prioritize its efforts at bringing the bloodstream back to its beneficial pH range. To comprehend the significance of a healthy blood pH, read this linked article.
Nature is alive, and as such, every fruit, vegetable, fish and animal are also – alive. These sources of “food” for Man are extremely nourishing and beneficial in their living state, as their potency is the highest (both the enzyme content and nutrients). However, once cooked, baked or extracted from its natural composition, this food is considered “processed”.
When Man decided to acquire his sugar from the sugarcane plant, he had to develop a method of extracting the sugar from the highly fibrous plant. Man wanted to enjoy the sweet taste, but not at the expense of chewing it out of a thick roll of fiber. Therefore, Man invented a process of separating the sugar from the fiber.
Another example would be the milling of grains into a flour. As mentioned earlier, all grains have protection mechanisms, therefore, our ancestors, knowing that, would sprout the grain before baking bread with it, or fermented the grains using a process of preparing a sourdough. In both cases, our ancestors applied wise processing methods to reduce the toxicity naturally equipped in the grain.
However, processed foods in the conventional method overlooks the wisdom of sprouting or fermenting, and instead mill the grain into a flour and bake the same day without additional processing. The simple mentality of placing ingredients together in the effort of producing food, while neglecting the biological implications of high sugar and toxin exposure, has produced a final product that is debilitating to the GI tract and poisons the bloodstream.
The traditional method our ancestors used, both sprouting and fermenting, requires Man to pre-meditate on each meal in advance. Because of our refrigeration technology and the mass production by industry, Man doesn’t need to think ahead for his survival, but instead worry only up to a day in advance to secure his survival needs. Thus, the SAD dieter as poor organization skills and poor planning skills.
Like the synthetic supplements Man injects into his food in order to survive the nutrient-void food he eats, Man also has a symptom oriented mentality, whereby he isn’t bright enough to recognize the cause of his physiological condition. Instead, he blames his condition on signs and markings and pursues medical aid that treats the symptoms rather than the root cause.
A SAD dieter is in a state of victim consciousness, and so he blames the things he can see or feel within his body for the degenerating condition he is in. He will choose to go to a conventional doctor and place his entire trust in a diagnosis, and then spend his energy and money at following the doctor’s medical advice. In many cases, as doctors are indoctrinated into a classical mechanical mentality, they will look at the patient as a machine with parts to replace or parts to fix.
Due to the SAD dieters reduced energy and immunity, he is at the mercy of people who demonstrate knowledge in health and authority. Their suffering has risen to such a height, that they would go through a surgery or consume drugs to alleviate their misery. Being that vulnerable, the SAD dieter will not think twice before swallowing a pharmaceutical drug. In many cases, the placebo effect kicks in and the patient feels temporary relief, as his mental and emotional stress is calmed down. But as soon as his environmental stressor returns, he will fall back into his internal turmoil and seek relief in the same manner he has done before. In that sense, the SAD dieter has no awareness of a repeating pattern to his suffering, and thus he keeps on blindly swallowing pills and undergoing surgeries.
Pharmaceutical drugs are toxic and dehydrating. Man-made medicine in a lab has no resemblance to the medicine produced by ancient scriptures and philosophies. Man removes himself from nature, and thus he creates new medicine to mimic medicine from nature. Many of his drugs are poisonous and have ill side-effects.
Such drugs are designed to cause a malfunction in a specific site within the body. For instance, statin drugs; these class of drugs prevent from the cell to create cholesterol. One of the assembly line machinery within the cell’s power plant requires cholesterol in order to be created. Sequestering of cholesterol synthesis logically leads to reduced levels of Coenzyme Q10, that same assembly line machinery made from cholesterol.
A large loss in traditional wisdom had been done by the fast food industry, that promotes foods and meals that have bad food combining. Such as in the case of a beefburger with a bread bun.
Bread, as we know by now, is loaded with processed starches – carbohydrates – that are broken down into simple sugar molecules in the gut. Only in their single free form can the body transport them across the gut-blood barrier. Moreover, sugars spike the glycemic index inside the bloodstream, signaling the brain to request insulin to be secreted by the pancreas.
Insulin is produced in order to combat the high and toxic dosage of sugar seeping into the blood. But it’s not limited to that function alone; insulin has many more functions, including shutting down the mechanism in the Liver involved in transmuting certain amino acids into glucose – a sugar. You heard that right, the Liver takes the constituents of proteins – amino acids – and converts them into glucose for energy. That means that you don’t have to get your energy from sugar intake, and that protein is another good source of energy for the body.
In fact, high doses of sugar in the blood causes the infamous roller coaster hyper- and hypo-glycemia. On the other hand, amino acid conversion into sugar allows the trickling of sugar into the blood in manageable quantities, to such a degree that the glycemic index is a steady line rather than ups and downs. Insulin doesn’t need to be secreted while sugar levels in the blood are steady and non-toxic, and a steady and regulated addition of sugar to the bloodstream is only done by converting amino acids into glucose.
Now, the aspect of bad food combining only becomes apparent when you recognize that protein that sits in the gut ends up putrefying, or in other words, decaying. This process of putrefaction happens to produce lots of toxins that can burden the colon and lead to toxemia.
Due to the established fact that starch takes precedence in digestion over protein, it makes sense that protein is largely pushed aside in order for the body to deal with the starch. Unfortunately, the consequence is protein putrefaction. This is not to say that none of the protein is digested. Some of it would, but the starch would take priority. Therefore, best to avoid combining the two in meals – particularly high protein with lots of carbs.
One way to slow down starches from seeping into the bloodstream too quickly is by combining them with fats or oils. This reduces the toxic impact of the sugar, stretches out the duration of absorption, and gives the body enough time to deal with a level of sugar that won’t send you into a hyper- and hypoglycemic event. This is largely because food particles compete for digestion and then for absorption, and if you mingle fatty acids among the starches, the digestive enzymes would deal with both intermittently. Therefore, combining carbs and oils seem to be a safe food combining practice.
This is a big issue with the SAD dieter. They believe that saturated fat causes heart disease due to the propaganda the pharmaceutical industry has launched and promoted in the 1950s and is still surviving today. But not for long.
Saturated Fat was demonized because of the hypothesis claiming that cholesterol causes heart disease and the Phenomenon of Atherosclerosis. Since cholesterol is synthesized in the body from Saturated Fat, it was Saturated Fat that was demonized. Thus, in the 90’s and early 21st century many processed foods were labeled “low-cholesterol” or “heart healthy” in support of what initially was only a hypothesis (and not fact).
Unfortunately, this propaganda was only successful in spreading to the mass public due to the profit the pharmaceutical industry could make from sick people. See, cholesterol is not the problem, it is just found in the scene of the crime. Sure it is oxidized, and it, with other compounds, make the plaque that eventually clogs the artery, but the real question is “why is cholesterol produced in such high amounts”, “what oxidizes cholesterol”, and, “what reverses this phenomena in order to prevent heart disease”?
Why is Cholesterol Produced in such high amounts?
Cholesterol is found to make up a portion of the cell membrane during specific environmental conditions. All cells have membranes, so trillions of cells body-wide produce and maintain a stock of cholesterol. Moreover, cholesterol is used in the structure of hormones and specialized enzymes. Cholesterol gives the cell its elasticity. Clearly, the body produces it for beneficial purposes.
However, when the body sustains injury or when it’s dehydrated, the cells react to the change in the environment, and deploy mechanisms to regain health or deploy drought management mechanisms, respectively. When a cell is injured, it would produce cholesterol in order to patch the walls, along with other materials to rebuild the structure. And when a cell is dehydrated, it produces cholesterol in order to seal off the cell membrane from the inside, in order to prevent the natural diffusion of water outwards.
In the SAD dieter’s meals, many toxins are introduced into the body, and those toxins can harm biological structures. That would propel the cell to produce its antioxidants in order to deal with the toxins, but at the same time produce cholesterol in order to heal and seal the wound. Moreover, all toxins are dehydrating agents. A SAD dieter hardly ever washes down his meal with pure water, unless he takes pill medication.
Unfortunately, when the whole body is inflamed, particularly in SAD dieters, cholesterol levels are high because of the large scale manufacture and distribution of cholesterol by the Liver into the circulatory system. See, when the whole body is suffering, due to toxicity or injury, the brain signals the Liver to create cholesterol from Saturated Fatty Acids, and to ship the cholesterol to the injured cells. It achieves that using the River of Life – the circulatory system, bloodstream.
In order for cholesterol, a fatty and hydrophobic substance, to travel the waterways of the circulatory system, it needs to be carried by a water-soluble protein. A Lipo-protein (lipo as in lipid, meaning fat, attached to a protein), is the main carrier of cholesterol and other fatty acids within the waterways of the bloodstream. When the Liver sends cholesterol out into the bloodstream, it uses a transport called LDL – Low Density Lipoprotein. This LDL carries on within itself cholesterol, and makes the transportation to the injured site possible.
What Oxidizes Cholesterol?
Alas! The tragedy in its early conviction in being “bad” is only because LDL had been found at the scene of the crime. The truth behind this erroneous judgement is that cholesterol is found oxidized, but what can oxidize it unless it had been immersed in a toxic, highly reactive, acid environment? That is exactly the case! The SAD dieter’s meals consist of many products that are acid forming. Once they hit the bloodstream, their high dosage lowers the pH drastically.
Therefore, one can conclude that the environment, which developed into a acid type, damages arterial integrity and compromises living and functioning transporters of building blocks and nutrients. This includes LDL, which is denatured, and the cholesterol is oxidized along with it.
The LDL, and it’s bonded cholesterol, sink to the bottom of the arterial wall and make a deposit there. The garbage disposal unit of the body, the white blood cell, reaches the oxidized LDL, turns into a macrophage, and gubbles the waste. Now it’s HDL’s turn. This High Density Lipoprotein’s (HDL) main role in this scene is to connect to the macrophage, receive a portion of the digested wastes, and carry that load all the way back to the Liver, where the oxidized cholesterol and denatured LDL are recycled.
Another erroneous conception by western science, created by the pharmaceutical giants and propagated by mainstream media, is the assignment of manipulative and unjust labels to these two carriers of cholesterol. Because LDL carries cholesterol and is found with cholesterol at the scene of the crime, LDL was labeled “Bad cholesterol”, while HDL, the one responsible for removing cholesterol from the arteries, had been labeled “Good cholesterol”.
Although these labels were given in order to inform and educate the layman and laywoman without getting too technical, these labels are misleading and promote ignorance to the underlying truth; these lipoproteins are neither bad nor good, they are simply alive and reactive to changes in the environment – like you. Their tasks are simple; one ships cholesterol from the Liver, and the other ships cholesterol back to the Liver. Those are functions of molecular machines designed to fulfill a role, not to cause injury and eventual death.
It is sufficient to conclude that the SAD dieter is caught in a loop; he eats to live and he eats to die. The “modernized” world, not only made highly acidic foods easily and cheaply available, but also indoctrinated man, woman and child into a belief system that’s sole purpose is to maintain loyal customers.
What reverses this phenomena in order to prevent heart disease?
Fortunately, mankind is a descendant of a higher intelligence, of which awakens when pain is sufficient and suffering has left its mark. In time, all children return to the garden to live again.
As he emerges from the intoxication of the sugary foods he so depends on, he connects the dots and recognizes that his current situation is due to a repeated self-destructive habit. He may become enraged at his life condition, which will propel him to change his diet for the better, or he may become depressed, which is understandable, as the way back to health seems far and uncomfortable.
Either way, a person who emerges asking for help and guidance is taking the first step in reclaiming his power, and he desperately needs friends and coaches to support his rehabilitation.
The first thing that reverses this slow and debilitating phenomena is complete avoidance of sugar and processed foods. All the things that he typically eats are to be avoided, and instead, cleaner and nutrient-dense foods must be consumed, along with a serious hydration therapy.
This shift in food quality produces a new and repeated beneficial environment for cells and the bloodstream. However, the repercussions appear instantaneously, which can reduce his spirits and send him back to his old habits. Those include accelerated detoxification and emergence of illnesses due to the heavy poisoning of the body by the enormous circulation of toxins. But if he continues to hydrate and exercise religiously, he will flush the toxins out and avoid the physiological stresses that impinge on the conscious mind the sensation of depression and of lack.
Fortunately, there are several ways to support the body in its heavy detoxification period, which will be discussed in the section on Cleansing and Detoxification.
This concludes the list of characteristics observable in a person living under a Standard American Diet.
Have you ever gone to bed and tossed and turned for hours? Was it your continuous attempt at quieting the busy mind? There may be a correlation between Insomnia and Dehydration that most people miss, including you, and understanding the many factors that indicate the connection between the two may shed light on it, let alone give you a reason to hydrate before you go to bed.
In this article we will examine the Science which helps us understand why it is difficult to fall asleep while the Drought Management Mechanism is activated.
The mechanism that is turned on when the organism recognizes an extreme scarcity in water is the “Drought Management Mechanism”. The body spends considerable energy in allocating water and processing materials to the benefit of its survival through this situation. An example is the prioritization of organs, like the allocation of water from the lower organs to the higher ones, or for example the sacrificing of certain amino acids.
Tryptophan is an amino acid involved in the wake-sleep cycle in humans, yet, for some reason its levels decrease in the body during stressful situations. When the body experiences water shortages, certain amino acids are sacrificed – broken down – in order to maintain a very specific composition of a reserve pool of amino acids. One such amino acid which is sacrificed is tryptophan, whose loss impacts the manufacturing of neurotransmitters serotonin and melatonin.
Basically, tryptophan is a building block that is present in the structure of both serotonin and melatonin. But, apparently, water shortage – dehydration – acts as a stressor on the organism, which in turn causes the organism to invest considerable energy in downsizing the amino acid pool reserves to suit the current water volume. So tryptophan is broken down and the concentrations of serotonin and melatonin are downsized as well.
Now it seems quite simple to recognize how the decrease in water leads to the decrease in tryptophan levels, consequently impacting the body’s ability to coordinate sleep throughout the system.
However, a more compelling and common-sense explanation may make it easier to recognize the significance of this phenomenon.
When was the last time you were able to fall asleep while you experienced ongoing stress? Could it be that an organism in its desire to “relax” require a comfortable range of environmental conditions? Would water scarcity trigger the body to signal its restlessness to the mind as a mechanism to inform it that stress exists in vast populations of organs and tissues? Why would the body let its host drift into a state of unconscious existence while tissues are under accumulated stress?
These questions posed above are designed to invoke within you an internal reasoning. How does your body let you know its state of being? Simply, through the experiences you earned following the actions you’ve taken. Your mind cannot shut off while the body is in a process of survival. Yes, your body is attempting to balance its internal fluid composition, and the organism will be urged to remain present until the stress is lifted.
Have you ever gone on a camping trip in an arid climate or walked for hours across a city you were visiting? Your demands to experience certain things exerts its own demands on the body, which in turn utilizes water and in certain situations even loses it. What happened to me repeatedly as a result of these trips without proper hydration was a state of debilitating migraines which left me tossing and turning in bed.
In this case, re-hydrating the body will lift that stress, as it is the replenishment of fluids that wash away the disturbing effects of accumulated acidity. The many stressors you experience or inflict on your body result in a systematic and corresponding accumulation of acidity in the tissues. The stressors are reactive chemical species that cause water to be utilized and lost. The gradual loss of water means a proportionate concentration of non-fluid materials, in this case substances with acidic properties. To wash these acids out of the tissues can only be achieved by the addition of water (and salt – to be elaborated upon separately).
The fluid volume in the nervous system, which is anyways larger by 5% from the fluid volume of other tissues, is under stress from accumulated acids. These acids disturb cells due to their damaging effects on cell components – starting with cell membranes. The accumulation of acids in nerve tissues could also be the nagging element in keeping the nerves busy.
All in all, you wish to have the capacity to rest, and I am here to provide you with a perspective that could lead you to an educated conclusion on this topic of Insomnia. Perhaps taking drugs to cross that threshold has provided you the solution in the past, but now you crave knowledge that could empower you to use natural methods of attaining the same. The ability to rest is a cellular expression, and it appears to be granted to the “conscious host” when the right conditions are met.
Water is the main component in our world with which biology is able to come to life and function. Substances are ennobled within biological systems that have adequate water, yet fall apart in environments that are scarce in this basic element. A decrease in the water percentage of the body appears to stress the organism into a mode of prioritizing organs, and as such certain processes take precedence over others for the survival of the corporeal body.
Your body talks to you, so keep your diet clean to keep your performance up. It’s always right to start with the basics – hydrate!
As children we rarely understand how to monitor our body. We may suddenly feel weak, not knowing why, and we depend on our parents to correct our actions. We end up inheriting the knowledge and wisdom of our parents, who were nurtured in similar ways by their parents, thus shaping an entire generation upon a range of perspectives. It becomes so acceptable to view health and body in a particular way, that an entire culture keeps the new maturing intelligences on a fixed path.
Our parents have gone through many experiences to determine, by our behavior, what is affecting us adversely which could give us a guide on how to monitor the body’s activities and symptoms. However, we are limited to the level of observational skills and education they attained, which in many cases is compromised by the self-inflicted “numbing lifestyles” they choose to live or has been handed down to them.
The body receives substances from the foods we eat and must utilize the transporting properties of water to handle and distribute materials – so called “nutrients”. The body depends on adequate water in order to break down these materials into an adequate size (catabolism), so when water does not enter in proper proportions to the ingested substances the body must compensate by allocating water from the surrounding tissues.
Therefore, many people experience physical exhaustion after a meal. They find themselves having to ”rest and digest” before they can return to work. Simply, their body is too low on its water reserves to handle the load, therefore water from different areas in the body is relocated to the basic processes of digestion and elimination. This temporary allocation of water from the muscles, joints and nervous system places people in a trance state and impairs their motor skills.
It has the potential of temporarily reducing your performance, or tricking your biology into operating under “lesser than optimal” conditions.
It has been scientifically documented that when babies are born they come into the world with 75% water by weight. However, when statistics were drawn for adults, the percentage of water reported is between 50-60%. Even more so, obese people have less than 50% water by weight. Why, where did all that water disappear to? One can simply explain this away by choosing to see it as a matter of natural growth consequences, but when taking into consideration that every cell has a need for a specific volume of water in order to operate optimally, than that explanation falls between the cracks.
For such a drastic alteration in the volume of water to occur, one has to undergo a series of episodes, whereby the body had been stressed in varying ways and not allowed to recover in between. Instead of recognizing the real issue and replenishing the fluid needs of the body, we end up acclimating to the new volume capacity of water available. Thus our performance gradually declines, year after year, episode after episode, until acidity conditions accumulate and a suitable environment for degenerative diseases develops.
Back when I was in middle school, I had a dehydration episode while out on a school fieldtrip. While hiking with my classmates, I was struck with searing pain in my lower right abdomen. My parents went out of their way to pick me up and take me to an emergency room. The fear was that I may be experiencing a ruptured appendicitis, but turns out I was simply dehydrated. Cases like these are not unheard of. People suffer from headaches, migraines, fatigue or inflammatory bowels and never consider the possibility that it could originate from improper fluid management. They simply experience the crisis and depend on others to relieve their suffering.
I didn’t recognize back then, even after my episode, the importance of adequate water intake which could explain much of the issues my body had as time went on. I’ve had many episodes following too much sun exposure, or long flights without water, or times when I would binge on meals and fall into a food coma. In each case, the body was stretched to its limits and lit warning signs. The body wanted me to pay closer attention to a missing element it needed so desperately, to question my situation and rectify the problem at its root before severe damage occurs.
Our desire from our body to express movement exerts its own demands on the battery cells to fulfill our wishes. However, the body is made of local materials in a composition that permits the fluid nature of thought to be expressed through our mechanical apparatus.
Where each person ends up in life is determined by the collection of self-realizations they attained. Knowing something crucial about your physiology, as crucial as the effect of dehydration on its performance, can aid you in better self-assessments and real recoveries from injuries and diseases. Overeating and vigorous exercise are actions that may lead you into episodes of physical stress. Such actions exert demands from the organism for water to be allocated to simple processes of digestion, elimination, energy production and tissue recovery. When the body doesn’t receive adequate water as a prevention or recovery measure, bodily processes stagnate and overall performance is impacted.
To integrate further wisdom, I have designed and produced a course called ”Water and Physiology”, which builds you up, concept by concept, to comprehend your physiology and eliminate the preconceived misconceptions. Empower yourself; take your physiology to the next level – to its original level it was always designed to be.
This organ of nerves is called the second brain. It is found in the gut region of the body. This plexus of nerves serves as a hub of a central intelligence – all the organs in its care are gut organs. The gut being the processing center of the avatar physiology, its spinal vertebrate corresponds to the yellow and orange spectrums. The processing of material food is accomplished by the gut. But the sampling of chemical stimulants or depressants is accomplished via the enteric nervous system (which then transmits that “sampling” information to the brain).
This localized processing center, i.e. brain in the gut, is connected to the brain in the head via the Vagus Nerve. This nerve provides the exchange of information between the collection of gastrointestinal organs and the brain. Through it, the gut can “speak” and communicate sensory and stimulant information to the brain. Provided the brain is not intoxicated by high dosages of corroding stimulants, it has the capacity to receive information from the gut brain and respond to the frequency and quality of the food.
It is as if the gut has a tongue of its own. While the food sits in it; the gut is continuously tasting the food and soaking up the chemicals. The local nerves receive information about the quality of water in the bloodstream, as well as the nature and concentration of substances in its circulation. When the tongue in our mouth is stimulated by a particular substance, it relays information to both the brains – the one in your head, and the one in your gut. Knowing what concentration of particular materials has entered the mouth, the biological intelligence of both brains invests energy in dealing with the incoming food.
This second brain is a collection of interrelated organs, with a communication hub to allow them to orchestrate their collaboration. The nerves of this plexus reach into the spinal cord at a particular junction, from which they enter the superhighway to the brain in our head. With the information that the brain receives, the mind experiences the nature of the substance.
Let’s take a 5 Minute Education, starting with explaining Toxins/Free Radicals and Antioxidants. This concept is fundamental, and will help shape the depth by which you’ll comprehend further research and studies into the molecular world.
This goes down to the basics of chemistry and even physics. Nothing to be alarmed of, simple science.
Atoms are the building blocks of Amino Acids (Think protein), Fatty Acids (Think oils), Carbohydrates and others.
When these atoms bond and form clusters (a molecule), they usually carry a neutral charge (meaning, not positive, not negative, but neutral).
What sometimes happens is that an organism (like a cell) is subjected to environmental stressors (heat, light, oxygen), and that causes stress on the bonds between atoms within the molecule. This potentially transforms the molecule into a “positive” electrical charge.
A general fact to know is, that all free radicals and toxins are characteristically “positively” charged.
Now, what happens to a positive charge like that in an environment teeming with negatively charged cellular structures? Havoc!
Like magnets, opposite charges attract (positive attracts negative). So these positively charged molecules passionately seek that negative charge in order to return themselves to that “neutral” balance, and in that process they interact with structural components of the cell and oxidize them. This process is widely known as “Oxidative Stress”.
When too many toxins (which act as free radicals) are produced inside the cell or the cell is exposed to too many of them, oxidative stress occurs, and extensive damage may result. What does the cell do? Sounds the alarms (initiates inflammatory responses).
When inflammatory responses are initiated, the antioxidant troopers are called in to neutralize the overwhelming threat.
All Antioxidants carry a surplus “Negative” charge, so they in essence bear that charge that the free radicals and toxins are passionate for. These antioxidants (like Glutathione, CoQ10 etc.) are created in larger amounts during the inflammatory response. This is in order to cool down the heated flood of free radicals and restore the cell back to its expression of growth behaviors. These antioxidants lose their negative charge in the process, but at least they’re not a structural component, plus, other antioxidants can replenish their negative charge (allowing them to act as antioxidants once more).
Many processes within our cells create free radicals intentionally, as nature created this process for good reasons (complex to explain in this short segment).
To conclude, free radicals and toxins are positively charged, while antioxidants are negatively charged. Antioxidants will neutralize free radicals in order to prevent the free radicals from oxidizing cellular components.
The following is my review of a 511 page book I had recently finished reading over a period of 2 months. Due to insufficient space in such a review, I will give a generalized overview of the book’s content.
If one would perceive physical “aging” as simply a condition of physical “degeneration”, one would take measurements to investigate what brought about the loss of cellular integrity.
What degenerates you?
Do you have tantrums?
Do you have a foggy mind?
Do you ever have criminal urges?
Is it difficult for you to remember things?
What did you eat this morning?
Have you suffered in the past from tooth decay?
Are you still suffering from tooth decay?
According to a 511 page book I just finished reading, called “Nutrition and Physical Degeneration”, my body, and the body of many other people I know, is physically unfit for primitive lifestyles under the “modernized” foods of commerce.
Fortunately, I have left the White Man’s foods and have found excellent stamina and physical regeneration. I hardly brush my teeth anymore because I have identified several years ago the reasons for bone density loss (osteoporosis) and immunity susceptibility to states of disease, and this book confirmed for me much of what I had experienced.
The author, Dr. Weston A. Price, a dentist, was concerned for the increasing incidence of tooth decay and dental arch deformities in the United States. His concern took him to investigate, observe, document and analyze, different cultures around the world. For that task, he needed a control group – a group within that culture that has a very high immunity to tooth decay and has no record of physical degeneration within their racial stock.
Dr. Price spent the 1930s traveling to 14 different cultures on 5 different continents. Where he had examined the teeth of thousands of primitive tribal men, women and children, who subsisted on their primitive diets (fresh, local and seasonal food, each culture having a unique diet that the climate and land conditions allowed). Then Dr. Price visited and documented extensively the physical degeneration of many primitive groups who had begun the process of modernization, as well as groups who had been converted entirely to subsisting on modern food. In many cases, these modernized men and women gave birth to children who had shown marked physical deformities in facial development, teeth, and body shape.
The aspect of diet, what to eat or what not to eat, was largely discussed in this book. However, instead of focusing on the nature of the modernized foods, it was clearly demonstrated what factors within the primitive groups had greatly maintained their excellent physiques, even to very late ages.
Repeatedly it is demonstrated, via photographs of smiling teeth and x-ray shots, that excellence of the primitive racial stocks compared to the modernized groups. The Swiss in the Alps, the Gaelics in the Hebrides, The Aborigines in Australia, the Masai warrior tribe in Africa, the Eskimos in Canada, the Indians in Peru, are a handful of the cultures that had been investigated. In each case, as if we can finally recognize nature’s pattern, we see that the primitive groups had nearly 100% immunity to all physical degenerations, and a very low incidence of tooth decay.
On the other hand, wherever the road, railway or ports allowed access of imported goods from the modernized world, we see that the people exchanging their nutritionally wealthy foods for the white man’s white bread, sugar, jams, canned foods etc., suffer greatly from the impact of the mineral and vitamin deficient food. The White Man developed a mentality of providing only energy and heat generating food for its masses, while the primitive races had maintained a close relationship with the body-building and body-repairing minerals and vitamins.
Civilizations tend to fall as a consequence of physical degeneration. However, it is the soil that gives out first, as farm land becomes exhausted from mineral depletion. But why would that happen? It can only happen in a system that supports exporting the minerals from the land out of the land. Only a system, which the primitives were aware of, that is able to return the minerals back to the land, would be able to nourish the plants. All animals, including man, inherits the pattern and composition of minerals that was available for the plant. If the land has degenerated, man will too. Such has been observed in large populations prior to World War 2, and such can be observed by photographs documented by Dr. Price of entire herds of cows that degenerated due to deficiencies.
Due to a growing concern of increased sterility in modernized populations, largely because of the deformity in both sperm and egg, and increased incidence of birth defects and loss of child at birth, the urge to investigate the reasons for this phenomenon had propelled many scientists to determine the factors involved in the deformity in nature’s design. The book elucidates many of the factors that had inflicted primitive groups undergoing the process of modernization. The consequences are not limited to physical degeneration alone, but also include impaired brain development, which has been associated with the rising incidence in criminal behaviors as well as learning disabilities.
Could food, and the state of the soil it had come from, have an impact on physical development and performance?
Has this crucial knowledge and wisdom presented in the book’s message propel society to incorporate nutritional guidelines?
Life began in the sea, and as such, all living things contain water and function in an aqueous space. It is possible to observe an internal ocean within the cell and an external ocean encompassing the cell. Water’s simple molecule – two hydrogens bonded to an oxygen – provides the space and plain for the molecular and biological world to move around and to carry out their life functions. Digestive enzymes cannot reach and carry out the mining of the raw materials without an aqueous space, which provides them the room to maneuver in order to transport nutrients to the absorption cells. Furthermore, the bloodstream is 90% water, because water makes it possible for nutrients to drift on the River of Life and to hydrate any dehydrated cells, while stripping the waste and transport it to the liver.
Why is it important to develop appreciation to water? We’ll explore water’s importance and the influence of substances on its pH. We’ll examine the reason for the development of tissue calcification and the phenomenon of Osteoporosis, as well as, which foods can return the body to its original and healthy pattern.
Conflicting information appear on mainstream media and social networks regarding Gluten and whether it affects us adversely. This is unsettling for people who are suffering acute and chronic conditions following a high gluten diet. In the desire to figure out what may be the underlying cause for the debilitating sensations that cripple many of us, a new perspective may offer a self-realization and a strategy for improving our capacity to handle gluten. Let’s truly understand gluten, how the body handles it, so we can make the right choices and improve our post-meal experiences.
The following is an argument presented based upon research and investigations into diet, physiology and human history. This article will allow you to piece some things together and develop your own opinion.
Basically, there is a huge difference between traditional methods of processing grains, which yield our breads, pastas and pastries, and conventional (and more recent) method of processing.
Traditionally, Man understood how nature operatedand would pass that wisdom down the line. The wisdom of soaking nuts, seeds, grains and legumes goes back thousands of years, and rightfully too. Our ancestors, who left their paleolithic lifestyle and settled down in farms to seasonally plow the soil, had recognized that these sources of nourishment had protective mechanisms, designed to ensure the survival of the pod until such conditions that favored germination arrived.
Toxins and digestive inhibitors are part of this protective mechanism all grains have, and soaking them will present the seed the proper conditions for germination and eventual sprouting of the seed.
Another method, traditionally used and partially forgotten by the public is fermentation. In my article, The Difference between Internal and External Fermentation, I presented an argument as to why traditionally leavened sourdough would be more nourishing than conventional leavened sourdough and how the non-fermented breads are so prevalent in western society today.
In the last century, science has offered an opportunity for Man to experiment with its food. We’ve seen it with GMO’s and Processed Foods, however, the aspect of fermentation is not taught at school to a degree of explaining why our ancestors leavened their bread.
The method used today is largely void of the fermentation process. In the case of commercial sourdough, the yeast used for the fermentation had been carefully studied and selected, because of its capacity to rip apart gluten in 40 minutes. Since time is money, for profits sake, it made sense for the mainstream industry to shorten the fermentation process, but the end-product – the sourdough – was nothing like the traditional one, which takes well over 24 hours to prepare.
Do remember this crucial part, as we will return to this later – When a seed is dormant, all its nourishment is stored in storage units, which is what Gluten is (a storage unit), and germination springs to life thousands of enzymes who begin breaking apart the storage units in order to use the materials for root and stem growth.
Gluten itself has been accused for causing damage to the gut, which is not far from the truth, but as always, there is something more to be said that contributes to a large picture.
Gluten consists of two parts – Gliadin and Glutenins. In Wheat, Gliadin is the name for the storage unit, while other grains have different names for the similar storage unit (such as barley (hordein), rye (secalin), corn (zein)).
Apparently, these storage units are very tough to break apart by our digestive enzymes, and because of that the gluten may be only partially broken apart into a 7-amino acid peptide with opiate effects. You heard that right, a small protein-like complex that activates and stimulates opium receptors in the brain. You can learn more about that in my short article – Foods that Numb your Brain.
The following is an illustration I had made a couple of years ago, depicting the gut-blood barrier in the lining of the small intestine. Probiotic bacteria are depicted in green, creating a nice barrier between the cells and the lumen (intestinal space), and on the right an inflamed area caused by abnormal bacteria (pathogenic), who produce a gap between the filtration cells of the gut-blood barrier. This gap allows partially digested materials to seep into the blood, unregulated, since all products that pass through this barrier require complete disassembly, otherwise they are too large to cross.
Does this Gluten protein begin to fascinate you? It dawned on me that gluten was not the initial cause for gut and digestion abnormalities, as well as psychological due to the opiate trigger, although it is found to correlate. It is actually our gut barrier that is deficient in water and is subjected to a grain-rich diet.
Although I gave enough information regarding gluten’s effect, I did not explain the reason for the phenomena depicted in the illustration.
Our food come with bacteria on them.
People who cook their food, kill the bacteria.
A processed food is any alteration to the composition of the original food.
If you were to eat grains that have not been processed externally by biological intelligences, so that they break down matter and recycle its building blocks for parts in their own creation out in an aqueous environment, these bacteria will instead proliferate internally, in order to recycle the food for parts but in a constricted and frequently dry space. Then those bacteria cause inflammation to the gut lining in the absence of hydration.
All food in nature comes hydrated. Food meaning; fruits, vegetables, raw fish and wild game. Those that do not come hydrated, are not alive. Alive is a definition you give to something that has activity, such as enzyme action, therefore, grains cannot be alive nor hydrating. And as such, upon consumption of a dry food, you will draw water from the closest source in order to hydrate the materials, and as long as you neglect to supply adequate water, the gastrointestinal tract will use what it can from the reserves of the body at the expense of other organs.
The lack of hydration of foods like grains and its processed forms, is because the storage unit within the grain has tremendous water binding capabilities and effects.
Agglutinin is define;
An agglutinin is a substance that causes particles to coagulate to form a thickened mass . Agglutinins can be antibodies that cause antigens to aggregate by binding to the antigen-binding sites of antibodies. Agglutinins can also be any substance other than antibodies such as sugar-binding protein lectins. [Wikipedia]
It has been already established that Gluten has water binding effects, as Gluten has been singled out as the chief ingredient in wheat to cause the texture of dough upon addition of water to flour. Moreover, flours and starches are frequently added to soups in order to thicken its consistency.
This knowledge and science isn’t new. But the dryness of your gut is evidently correlated with increased heat pressures in the central cooling system of the stomach area (the trunk of body).
Water has a cooling property when it flows. The gut system is a piping line that can also overheat, due to the heat produced by bacteria composting materials. The addition of water in a meal allows the presence of water to fill up the space and evenly occupy it with the food particles. The movement of bacteria and enzymes, such as digestive enzymes, is accomplished largely by water channels and aqueous environments.
The aqueous environment of the gut piping can be sufficient enough to permit the mining of food particles, or it can be too dry, and then the mining teams have less maneuverability and consequently less nutrient digestion and availability.
Gluten is a strong enough binder, that you can also mix it with milk and it turns out a strong and luxurious glue, you could then use for sticking things together. I’ve see kids eating it too.
It is sufficient enough to infer that there is a correlation between gluten, its binding forces to water, and the dehydration of the gastrointestinal tract.
Based on my personal experience and the paradigm shift I went through as I was reading Dr. Batmanghelidj’s book “Your body’s Many Cries for Water“; it seems that water is the most natural and efficient laxative there is. The implications of this discovery, and understanding it, is that you may have simply been dehydrated all along, with a little help from gluten’s gluing abilities, and all it takes is to dilute the piping system with mineral water.
Though, constipation isn’t necessarily only contributed by gluten. Many popular dehydrating substances are ingested on their own, without sufficient water intake throughout the day, and as the body attempts to eliminate them, they pile up on the transitioning stool and develop a dehydrated consistency.
Even the assumption that drinking a can of soda, which has water in it, would hydrate you, is incorrect and misunderstood. The water comes with dehydrating agents – sugars, caffeine etc. – and the brain detects the nature of the substance and prepares the gastrointestinal tract for the substances arrival. Water is simply the carrier of that substance.
According to Dr. Batmanghelidj, our thirst signals are repeatedly being quenched by large volumes of food. Apparently, thirst and hunger signals are similar, and instead of reaching for the glass of water, we go for food and a soft or hard drink.
When water is drunk on its own, it bypasses the stomach directly into the small intestines, as the brain detects the purity of the substance and knows that no digestion is required, but rather allow the inflow to go directly to hydrating and cooling the piping system.
Conclusively, gluten is produced by nature to be a compacted building block stored tightly in the tiny seed, and upon springing the seed to life, that seed requires enough water to allow the plant enzymes to keep tapping into that storage unit. The lack of water inside our body upon receiving undigested gluten results in the redirection of water reserves to the digestion site, so that the body can prevent total coagulation and dryness of that section, as well as dilute food density in order for water to facilitate movement and accessibility to substances.
I don’t want to shun gluten, nor am I asking you to. The Gluten-Free trend is based on some truth, but not enough people spend enough time comprehending Gluten’s basic dehydrating nature and recognizing the importance of water for diet health.
Gluten’s impact on human physiology is unavoidable. Ten-Thousand years ago, when mankind began plowing the land and growing mono-crops, they must have identified a correlation between heavy grain consumption and increased dehydration of the body. Methods to pre-digest gluten, such as fermentation to create sourdough or germination in order to sprout the grain, had to be discovered in the process of negating the appearance of side-effects.
It’s been only about 100-150 years since commercialized society decided to ignore traditional wisdom, but diseases and suffering always lend a helping hand for Man to return to more harmonious ways of life and living.
Please follow up on any article I had embedded into this article, for further reading.
Also, here is an article describing a technique for hydrating while Eating.
All living organisms on the lower rungs of evolution eat materials and expel wastes – byproducts. Mankind lives within an animated organism. One of which is bound to the laws of karma – action and reaction – whereas, if you eat, your body will have to digest and eliminate.
A few of your organelles inside your cells have been identified as bacteria, who gathered favorably together to form tribal life of mutual and beneficial trade amongst each other. Their symbiotic relationship happened to elicit an evolutionary benefit, one that ended up with the erection of city walls – a membrane – from which the governor of the city, i.e. cellular consciousness, can direct traffic and respond to environmental stimulus for the benefit of coordinated multicellular expressions.
From epigenetic research we now know that substance and food causes buttons to be pushed on the cell membrane, which in turn stimulate gene behavioral changes. The nucleus was once thought to be the brain, but it is now viewed as the gonads of the cell, as you can remove it from the cell and the cell remains alive. The brain is actually the membrane – mem-brain – which received stimulus from either the inside or outside of the cell, and then transmits a cascade pathway that switches genes on and off.
It is well known that certain types of substances can cause an organism to advance towards it to consume it, or express the contrary and stay away from the substance, as well as take steps to protect itself from the nature of that substance.
Some substances can cause an acid environment, like the crystalline form of sugar (pure glucose), which is the most acid forming substance consumed today (grains and starches come next). When a living organism, which operates in a slightly alkaline environment, is exposed to a drastic change in the environment, as much as a toxic shift in the acid direction, the organism’s membrane delivers a cascading message to turn off the “growth and healing mode” in favor of the “protection mode“, also known as “The inflammatory response”.
Free roaming bacterial populations are the first to come in contact with ingested substances. They have the capacity to create digesting enzymes, since they desire the utilization of raw materials, and they expel byproducts.
When free roaming bacteria digest a substance, it requires the utilization of complementary nutrients like water and minerals, in order to effectively break apart the atomic bonds between macro-nutrients (starches, fats and proteins).
Since nature stores single sugars as long chains of sugars, aka starches, when the need arises to utilize the sugars for energy purposes, which is bounded in an unavailable form as a starch, the bacteria and cells release digestive enzymes that quicken the breakdown of the bonds. In the process, gases are released as the sugars become available as a single molecule.
We know that the gut will not allow starches into the bloodstream, only simple sugars, so this step is always necessary for sugar to become available.
Not only does the environment in the intestines become highly acidic from the sugars, but the released gases causes pressure and symptoms of bloating. Stress on cells, whether from the acidic factor or gases, switches many cellular and bacterial growth modes into protection mode. This slows down digestion, absorption, and last but not least… the effectiveness of elimination (detoxification).
The Difference between
Aerobic and Anaerobic
Respiration is the active transportation and transmutation of chemicals within a living unit. Such that energy, a desired byproduct, is created, and with it the organism is able to produce movement.
An animal cell, such as the human’s cell, thrives in the presence of Oxygen. The process of cellular respiration, that utilizes Oxygen in a cascade of energy production mechanisms, is called Aerobic Respiration.
In the absence of Oxygen, cells switch to a less efficient mode of respiration called “Anaerobic Respiration”. It is less efficient, since the quantity of energy units – ATP – that is created, is drastically reduced (from 36 ATPs to 2 ATPs).
Taking a look at the illustration; in the absence of oxygen, energy is only created at the stage of Glycolysis. If Oxygen is present, the by product of glycolysis (Pyruvic acid) will enter the Mitochondria. In the absence of Oxygen, the by-products of glycolysis are recycled and fermentation results.
The process of Anaerobic Respiration, in the absence of Oxygen, is also known as Fermentation. The by product of Anaerobic Respiration is Carbon Dioxide, a gas, and Lactic Acid (if it builds up after an exercise, it give the sensation of sore muscles).
Traditionally all foods man ate were raw or processed by fermentation. The processing seen in the western lifestyle has neglected the wisdom of our ancestors, which took careful measures in processing grains, legumes and vegetables into forms of food considered “pre-digested by bacteria”, also known as Fermented Food.
Man’s neglect of this wisdom was caused by the invention of a technological preservation device – the Refrigerator. Prior to these Fridges, man would let his food dry out or let sit and ferment in a brine, so food would be available to him during the winter times, when the earth is too cold and conditions wouldn’t allow food to grow in large amounts.
It is a factor, that digestion is only accomplished by microbial consumption of raw materials. Their byproducts – the building blocks of the raw materials. Like the egg yolk, which has no proteins, but rather has the building blocks of proteins – Amino Acids – is so freely bioavailable for absorption by the absorption cells in the digestive tract, that no extra digestive energy is required for processing it.
Imagine how wonderful it is to relieve the digestive tract from such high energy demands. The leading cause for delayed healing and recovery from injury and illnesses is exactly that, hardly no recovery time. Rest is imperative for healing, and when you allow the gut to rest, instead of consuming 60% of the energy in the body for digestion, it can utilize less and the organism directs the growth and repair to brain cells, lungs cells, and every other cell in the body that is screaming with pain signals of attention.
External fermentation, like fermenting a Cabbage to make Sauerkraut, is a delicacy that not only delivers bacterial populations, but also frees the vitamin C from the tough to digest plant cell, and makes many of the plant structure available as building blocks. When that hits the small intestines… walla! fast absorbing nutrients to nourish the residential microbial and cellular populations.
When the first line of cells are happy with the environment created by the fermented foods, the growth mode remains on and thus the gates are wide open for deeper layers of tissues and organs to receive a refreshing flood of nutrients.
External fermentation complements the organism, by pre-digesting raw materials and making many large materials available in their building block form. This also releases gases, but at least not inside a confined space like the intestines and colon, thus preventing the buildup of gaseous pressures within the bloodstream, that can otherwise lead to gases being locked up inside cells (see The Blood Gas Theory).
Traditionally, we used bacteria and yeasts to digest gluten in the production of sourdough bread. This breaks down the gluten protein, bit by bit, into available free-form amino acids. It is only our conventional methods practiced today that skip the wisdom of proper fermentation, and many people suffer from illnesses due to gluten toxicity. Proper leavening of bread from a whole grain neutralizes the toxins and makes the B vitamins in the bran available for utilization by other organisms.
Digestion is a process leading to elimination. Raw materials are blocks to be mined, like a gold mine, which extracts the prize and eliminates the wastes. Taking steps to locate a gold mine results in less wastes and better yield from the energy utilization in the process of extraction. As goes with food choices, as you can certainly benefit from reducing gaseous wastes and toxins by employing physiologically complementing organisms, who can accomplish for you an initial processing to your food, that would otherwise be called to the intestines during internal digestion, in order to mitigate the heaviness of the meal.
There’s food for thought…
Tune in to a presentation taking you step-by-step, concept-by-concept, building up and connecting some interesting dots between the appearance of bacterial organisms inside our cells, who enjoy a symbiotic relationship within it, as well as how certain types of oils affect the performance of these microbes within our cells. This piece includes a video of a presentation I had done.
